Safety Guidelines
We welcome visitors, including kids. Please be aware that the farm has many hazards for both adults and children. Please observe all safety guidelines and posted signs. If you have any questions during your visit, please ask an Angelic Organics Learning Center staff person.
- Parents and youth group leaders are responsible for supervising youth under 12 years old at all times while in the farm environment.
- Be aware that farm has a variety of farm machinery, including tractors and trucks, which move regularly on the dirt roads between the fields and the farm buildings. Please use your eyes and ears (listen for engine noise) and move off the roadways when vehicles are approaching.
- Many fences are electrified to keep animals in and predators out of the animal pastures, vegetable fields, and barns. Please do not touch a fence unless you have checked with farm staff to make sure it is not electrified. Also, gates with chains or other ties must remain closed to keep livestock in their areas (they can destroy the vegetable crops very quickly!). Do not open the gates unless Learning Center staff have given you permission.
- Do not approach animals unless Learning Center staff are with you, and have given you permission. In particular, please do not attempt to pet the sheepdog, whose job is to protect the other animals.
- Entry into the farm buildings, vegetable fields, and office spaces (barns, greenhouse, coolers, packing area, corn crib, farmhouse, etc.) is permitted only when accompanied by a Learning Center staff person. Hazards include equipment, sharp tools, and supplies such as oil, gas, and paint. Children may not enter any of the farm buildings unless supervised at all times by an adult.
- Do not touch or climb on any farm vehicles (tractors, mowers, trucks, wagons, etc.) or stand in between vehicles and attached wagons, carts, or carriers.
- Many farm tools are very sharp. You may handle farm tools (hoes, pruning shears, etc.) only after you have received instruction from an authorized Learning Center staff person.
- Please pack garbage out with you or place it in the proper receptacle at the farm. Ask a farm staff person for the proper locations for organic matter, paper, plastic, etc.
- If you feel ill, have an accident (and need first aid), or just have a simple question, please advise the Learning Center staff immediately.
