Ruth GFA

Dear friends,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Ruth Fairchild after a car accident.  Ruth was a true visionary, disciple, mentor, friend, and warrior who served as a leader and partner in the Learning Center’s work over the past decade. The following is an excerpt from our nomination of Ruth for Rockford’s 2017 Excalibur Award; it captures just a taste of her indomitable spirit and her impact on individuals and the broader community.

Ruth Fairchild first called me in...

Pasqua, one of our Scottish Highland cattle, gave birth on Tuesday night to a large, stillborn calf. Traumatized by her loss, a long labor, and damaged nerves, she lay listless in the pasture. Our staff brought water, grain, and encouragement, but the real gift for Pasqua came from the third graders at Prairie Hill Waldorf School, who spontaneously sang choral music to soothe and comfort her.

Spring is the time of year when many Waldorf schools bring their third graders to our farm to experience farm life....

Bat Mitzvah at Angelic Organics Lodge

Still on a high from our wonderful experience at Angelic Organics Learning Center! We couldn't have wished for a more comprehensive, informative, exciting, loving, and joyful journey. Noa was over the moon and hasn't stopped talking about the farm, and of course, the baby goats, to anyone who will listen! I believe that her time at the farm may have changed the course of her life. She is a passionate animal lover and I feel that now she is clear that working to support the welfare and wholistic care of animals, and her interest in living a farm life has...

If I told you that baby goats can teach you scientific principles, you’d likely tell me that’s too good to be true. Spend time with baby animals AND learn key concepts straight out of Next Generation Science Standards? Come on…

But it’s true. And I know, because we do it every year.

Easily the most popular programs at Angelic Organics Learning Center are the kidding programs. Every spring, we invite the community to join us in caring for newborn goats and their mothers. For the farm, kidding season is a crucial time to have...

National CSA Day is February 23, 2018. Community Supported Agriculture shares, or CSAs, are just that. You, the community member, buys a share of agricultural product. When you buy early in the year, it helps the farmer (or fisherman) invest in the production season. Thus, discounts that encourage sign-ups are plentiful this time of year!

Dear Friends of Angelic Organics Learning Center,

As we enter 2018, we are grateful for your support and the support from our community of friends, partners, and funders who made this year’s success possible.  We are inspired by the thousands of people -- farmers and eaters -- who participated in our programs and learned new skills to help them grow, get, and eat good food.  Together, we are building a local sustainable food and farm system.

We are thrilled to announce two leadership changes in the Angelic Organics family effective February...

The relationships of farmers and eaters in our local sustainable agriculture economy often starts on and/or is nurtured on the internet. The FCC is voting Dec. 14th on its proposal to repeal “net neutrality” and we are deeply concerned it will cause harm to hundreds of farmers and thousands of eaters we serve. Please call your representatives in Congress today!! In particular, small rural farm businesses and nonprofits like ours will be impacted if Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are allowed to determine what content you view and what you can distribute and at what speed. Indeed,...

“We are witnessing the greatest injection of carbohydrates into the biosphere in human history―[an] injection that dilutes other nutrients in our food supply.”  Irakli Loladze

As far back as the early 1920s, Rudolf Steiner, founder of Biodynamic Agriculture, suggested in his Agriculture Course that “a lot of things have diminished in their nutritive value,” partly due to the early adoption of chemical fertilizers.

In the wake of so many natural disasters in this country and beyond, we can see why volunteering matters. It’s not about the hours, it’s not about the optics, it’s about the community and helping...

“Ending oppression – the dynamic based on a belief that there are some who are entitled to have power and control over others – is vital to cultivating restorative communities of people...

Over the past two years, Cliff McConville, owner of All Grass Farms, has supported his employees in pursuing their farm dreams by sending them to Stateline Farm Beginnings...

AJ Weis’ farm story begins at an early age. He grew up on his family’s farm, a conventional row crop farm in Burlington, WI, before attending University of Wisconsin-Madison...

It is a warm and windy June afternoon when I give Stateline Farm Beginnings graduate Vanessa Quiñones a call to learn her farm story. Vanessa started The Victory Garden Farm in Fredonia, WI after graduating from the Stateline Farm Beginnings program in the fall of 2015. She also balances an off-farm job as a massage therapist with farming the land she shares with......

The work of growing food for others offers many challenges, but rarely garnishes much in the way of recognition and acknowledgement. However, the work of two women farmers was celebrated at the recent Good Food Advocate Celebration on April 28, 2017. Andrea Hazzard, farmer and proprieter of Hazzard Free Farm and Ketura St. Fleurose, Roots & Wings Youth Leader, environmental activist, and high school student, were honored as the 2017 Good Food Advocates by Angelic Organics Learning Center. The award recognized the two women for their work in supporting the mission...
