What is CRAFT?

The Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (Upper Midwest CRAFT) is a farmer-led coalition offering multi-year training for biodynamic, organic, and sustainable farmers and market gardeners. CRAFT is facilitated by Angelic Organics Learning Center.  For more information, visit:

The first CRAFT program was founded in upstate New York in 1995. In 1997, ten farmers from northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin founded the Upper Midwest CRAFT, the second program in the United States. Since then, the alliance has become one of the leading efforts to train the next generation of organic, biodynamic, and sustainable farmers. Graduates, who now lead dozens of new local farms, are trained by some of the most accomplished farmers in the Midwest. More than 85 sustainable farms in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin belong to the Upper Midwest CRAFT. Coordination is provided by Angelic Organics Learning Center.

Membership in CRAFT offers you 12 free field day workshops per year. You’ll gain topic-specific production knowledge, hands-on learning, and you’ll belong to a supportive alliance of sustainable farmers. You will also receive our CRAFT Handbook which includes our farm member directory, access to the CRAFT member list serv, a weekly subscription to the CRAFT newsletter, and discounted rates on Angelic Organics Learning Center and Michael Fields Agricultural Institute sponsored-workshops.
